Attendance & Grades

Many have asked for a way in Canvas to use the Roll Call Attendance tool, but not assign a grade in the gradebook.  If you haven't noticed, when you click the Attendance button in a course, Canvas automatically adds a "Roll Call Attendance" assignment worth 100%.  Canvas then deducts a percentage from this 100% as students are absent.  This tends to throw of the total grades and confuses students.

Until recently, we were unable to remove the automatically created assignment and points from Grades without it readding itself.  A recent update changed that.

Now you can edit the Roll Call Attendance assignment and select "Not Graded" from the Display Grade as drop down.  This will remove the percentage and column associated with the assignment from Grades.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
