New TLC Lab Assistants!

Thanks to the TACCT grant funds, the TLC was able to bring on two new individuals to help faculty.

Ariel is a Computer Science major here at CCC.  She joins us with a strong background of helping customers with computers and other office-related tasks.  She’s looking forward to the new opportunities working in the TLC.

Adam is also a student in Computer Science with a strong interest in ed. tech.  Most recently at the CCC Help Desk, Adam joins us in the Teaching and Learning Center.  He has a strong background in computing and is excited about working with faculty in this new role

InstructureCON 2014

Every year the team at Instructure have a big conference for Canvas. There are keynote talks from the CEO and other major figures within Canvas community and then there are break-out sessions with either Canvas community members or Instructure team members giving shorter talks on specific subject matter. Everything is recorded and put on their website so if you are interested in viewing any of these videos click here.

Videos from the 2013 conference can be viewed as a YouTube playlist here.

We found this video to be particularly engaging:

News about June 14th release

Hey folks, there was a new release of Canvas put into production on June 14th 2014. Here are some of the changes we think you might care about.

Draft state is now a standard feature

This feature was being tested and is now part of the standard feature set. If you would like to learn more about draft state for instructors click here.

Recipient list now alphabetized by last name

Improvements to the new inbox system continue. This release includes alphabetizing of the names in the recipient drop-down list. You can now also select multiple recipients at once by pressing the command key (Mac) or control key (PC) while clicking on users names.

Time Zones are now more configurable

Previously all time zones were set based off the account settings. With this release, courses can have their own time zone and users can also set their personal time zone. If a user sets their time zone all times displayed in Canvas will refer to the user's local time.

That's all the highlights from this release. Below is a video describing all the changes in detail, and if you would like to view the full release notes click here.
